Who owns Casino Nanaimo

On January 16, 2025, Petroglyph Development Group completed its acquisition of Casino Nanaimo from Great Canadian. The same closing covered Elements Casino Victoria. Snuneymuxw First Nation is the sole shareholder of Petroglyph, which serves as the Nation's economic development arm. The company puts it this way: the profits, all of them, "go back to the Nation".

On this site, "runs" names the company that operates a casino. "Owns" is used where an owner or a sale is published. Petroglyph runs its Vancouver Island casinos, Casino Nanaimo among them, through Lahal Casino Management LP, its casino management arm. BCLC conducts and manages the gambling.

The sale was announced on June 24, 2024. Land associated with the casino was to be returned to Snuneymuxw on closing, as part of the Snuneymuxw xwsol'lexwel village. Great Canadian, which had operated Casino Nanaimo since 1986, was to provide transition services for up to two years. How those services stand now is not published.

Casino Nanaimo dates from 1986, and its present home is 620 Terminal Ave, in the downtown core of Nanaimo. Great Canadian operated it from the first day. The guide has no record of another name for the casino.

The casino admits guests from 10 AM to 1 AM on Sunday through Thursday; Friday and Saturday keep the same 10 AM start and run to 2 AM. All times are Pacific. The floor has over 400 slot machines, from one cent per pull. Table games are live from 4 PM to 12 AM Monday to Thursday, 11 AM to 2 AM on Friday and Saturday, and 11 AM to 12 AM on Sunday. The Well Public House holds music trivia at 7 PM on Thursdays and music bingo at 7 PM on Fridays. Karaoke follows on Saturdays at 8 PM. Casino Nanaimo names Encore Rewards as its players' card.
