What changed since 2024

On January 16, 2025, Petroglyph Development Group closed its purchase of Casino Nanaimo and Elements Casino Victoria from Great Canadian. Petroglyph is wholly owned by Snuneymuxw First Nation. The two sales had been announced on June 24 and September 10, 2024. Petroglyph's own wording is that all profits, in its phrase, "go back to the Nation".

Petroglyph took over Great Canadian Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam on May 5, 2026, under a sale first announced on December 19, 2025. Under a limited licence, the Great Canadian name stays with the casino. Since June 16, 2026, River Rock Casino Resort has belonged to a partnership formed by Petroglyph and Musqueam Capital Corp, a company of the Musqueam Indian Band.

Two more sales have been agreed. Great Canadian agreed to sell the casino portion of Hastings to Tsleil-Waututh Nation, with a definitive agreement on November 7, 2025. On March 9, 2026, it agreed to sell Elements Casino Surrey to SE-MI-AH-MU Development Corporation of Semiahmoo First Nation. Each step, with its date, is set out in the change log.

The full change log

What stays the same on the floor

For a guest, the rules on the floor do not change with the owner. BCLC conducts and manages casino gambling for the province in all sixteen rooms, and private companies run them. The page on what BCLC does sets out that role.

Some entry rules apply everywhere. Nobody under 19 may enter. Since June 2023, guests show government-issued photo ID when they arrive, and staff compare it with the self-exclusion list.

Fifteen of the sixteen casinos name Encore Rewards, the same players' card; RimRock Casino does not describe one. Anyone harmed by gambling can see a GameSense Advisor, who is available at each casino in British Columbia.

Playing online in BC

Online gambling in British Columbia follows the same age rule as casinos: players must be 19 or older. No other online gambling site besides PlayNow.com is legal in the province. In a statement dated August 28, 2026, the IGCO held that any other online gambling site admitting BC players is breaking the law in the province.

The home page is the one page of this guide that carries paid links, and each of them is marked Ad. Their destination is a private online casino. BC holds no licence over it and plays no part in running it, and PlayNow is a separate operation. For a BC resident playing there, no provincial protection applies, and that includes Game Break as well as the limits set by PlayNow. The IGCO does not accept complaints about that site.

A commission goes to the site from these links, and the partner is not fixed. All of these points appear together on the Online in BC page.
